Why Do Dogs Run Away ? How to stop it by Despina
Dogs are the old time scavengers and worship to walk and run about miles in their surroundings. Though meeting this need is not achievable in nowadays world but they still inherited a part of this desire. This is one motive why your dog always charges the entrance in order to escape! He does not want to go out because he is not calm at your house but because he is curious and want to know and make bigger his area outside the house also!
The basic motive that can trigger the dog to escape are:
1. He can be lost his old surroundings and wants to go back. When a dog is brought to a new house, whether from the breeder’s place or you transfer to a new house, the dog misses his old house area and wants to go back.
2. He can be receiving some kind of attraction like foodstuff or treats at other home and thus wants to visit there.
3. If the male dog is on heat up, he will try to escape to get a smell of a girl dog. Vice versa, a girl dog will try to escape in seek of her mating partner. It is their drive to reproduce that forces them to move out.
4. When the dog gets bored, he tries to dig away his way out from the house so as to burn out his energy.
5. Lots of dogs having that “predator” character run out of the house just to follow a squirrel, cat or other dog.
6. Many dogs run out of panic. Like for example the dogs get easily afraid of a strong thunder storm and if get a chance to escape they will run and run till the point they feel protected and secured.
The nervous of dog though is natural but could be unsafe for them. Many dogs after escaping from the house are able to find their way back house but most of them get misplaced. In such point, they become prone to accidents, starvation, getting rash after coming in get in touch with the other stray dogs and many unwanted difficulty.
The running away of dogs can be reduced if not fully stopped!
1. For all new puppies and the dogs lost their old surroundings, give them a comfort by your existence. Make their relaxing place warm, dry and comfortable. Keep the dog close to you for initial few days till the time they settled down in their new surroundings.
2. The male dogs should definitely get neutered. This decrease their probability of running out of the house in search of girl dogs by almost 90%.
3. Furthermore if you want your girl dog not to be troubled and attracted by the lost male dogs, always drive her in your car for the walks in a park few kilometers away from your house. This will not give her smell to the lost dogs.
4. Avoidance is all the time better than heal. If you are the master of big dogs, make sure to have power full and high barriers all round your house.
5. Make sure the area where the dog stay most of his time, the backyard or any room or crate is well prepared with all his vital necessities like food, water and shelter.
6. If the dog runs when it get scared then try to find out what is troubling him. Keep him close to you at occasions such as thunder and lightning. Many times the big noises like that of fireworks also create problems for the dog. Help him to come out of his fears.
